Planners' stance wins approval
CAMPAIGNERS have supported planners' opposition to two M25 service stations they fear could ruin ancient woodland.
Penny Harris, campaigning against proposals to build service stations on both sides of the motorway, near Chalfont St Peter, applauds Buckinghamshire County Council's decision. Cilla Black and former Iron Maiden lead guitarist Adrian Smith also back her campaign. The site is next to Nockhill Wood and Mrs Harris fears the development will endanger wildlife.
Mrs Harris, 51, of Slade Oak Lane, Chalfont St Peter, persuaded more than 200 villagers to protest to the county council in March. She said: "I was very pleased to hear about Buckinghamshire County Council's decision - this development really will affect a lot of people."
The county fears Total Oil UK's plans would interfere with Green Belt land and Colne Valley Park. Application for outline planning permission is due to come to a public inquiry on September 8.
Jocelyne Bia, of Total Oil UK, said: "Total will adhere to the public inquiry procedure and await the decision which will be taken by the Secretary of State for the Environment."
