COUNCILLORS are celebrating after a Government inspector threw out plans for a Chinese takeaway in Beaconsfield Old Town.
A public inquiry was held in March after South Bucks District Council refused permission for the restaurant at 48 London End.
The inspector's decision was released last week.
The appeal was made by Mrs Mui Man Kan, whose application involved demolishing a conservatory and including a two-storey rear extension.
Beaconsfield Mayor Lesley Mallinder said: "I'm very pleased because this is what the town council wanted and that is why I went to the inquiry, to explain the town council's objections and to support the district council's view.
"We always thought that a takeaway at that point in the Old Town would not fit in.
"We want the property to remain a shop to help retain the vitality of the Old Town."
The inspector concluded: "The two-storey extension would neither preserve nor enhance the setting of the terrace of listed buildings or the character and appearance of the Beaconsfield Old Town Conservation Area."
Mrs Man Kan's solicitor Michael Stone did not want to comment at this stage.
