CREDIT control manager Robert Edmonds was given a Parking penalty notice after buying a ticket from the wrong machine.

Mr Edmonds, 50, of Warrenwood Drive, High Wycombe, parked his Ford Escort in The Greenway, and bought a ticket from the nearest machine, in Priory Avenue, on May 6. When he returned to the car he found a penalty notice on it. Parking bosses have quashed the fine.

Mr Edmonds said: "I had paid the correct amount of money so I just couldn't understand it. It said I had parked without clearly displaying a valid ticket or voucher - but the ticket was on the dashboard.

"I took the ticket into Sureway Parking Services and the appeals committee sent me a letter on the 8th."

A spokesman for Buckinghamshire County Council, which contracts Sureway Parking Services, said a joint decision has been made to quash the fine.

He said: "Technically there was a parking violation because the tickets are not transferable. You can't buy a ticket in one road and use it in another.

"In all places where these restrictions operate there are signs to help the person find the right machine.

"However, on closer examination of the special circumstances surrounding this case, Sureway and the county council have decided it was a most unfortunate situation and we do believe Mr Edmonds was doing his best to comply with the regulations."
