RESIDENTS in North End, Buckinghamshire, are optimistic they will get the same 30mph speed limit as their neighbours on the Oxfordshire side of the village.
The optimism follows a meeting with officers from both county councils on Monday night.
Oxfordshire plans to give every village and settlement a 30mph limit, while Bucks acts only where there are accident blackspots.
Richard Kingshott, principal engineer with Oxfordshire, told villagers the council was prepared to pay the legal costs of equalising the village if Bucks paid for the signs.
The meeting was organised by Bucks county councillor Bob Woollard (Con, Marlow Rural). He said: "It's totally daft to have Oxford bringing in 30mph in one third of the village, while it is 60mph in Bucks. It is a rural community in an area of outstanding natural beauty."
