AN OLD English sheepdog is recovering from exhaustion and malnutrition after he was found at the side of the road.
Ben was found weighing little over three stone and disorientated close to Hedsor Road, between Beaconsfield and Bourne End.
The RSPCA is trying to trace his owners and find out how he came to be at the roadside on June 29.
RSPCA inspector Dave Hobbs said: 'This sheepdog was in an appalling condition. Not only was he badly malnourished but his coat was in a terrible state.
'It will be months before the dog makes a full recovery from his ordeal. Our inquiries so far have drawn a blank and I am very anxious to trace the dog's owner or talk to anyone who may have information about how he came to be at the side of the road.'
Ben's coat was in such a poor condition that all his fur had to be shaved off and he will stay in RSPCA care until he is ready to be rehomed.
The charity is also appealing for information about a Jack Russell cross, who has been named Buster, found in the boot of a green F-registered Rover at Pyebush roundabout, Beaconsfield, on June 29.
Anyone with information about Ben or Buster should contact the RSPCA on 08705 555999
