MAGNIFICENT! Excellent! Percussive! Breathtaking! Fortissimo! Marvellous! Superlative! Strings! Amazing! Crescendo! Woodwind! Awesome! Bravissimi! Exceptional! Cantato! Wonderful! Unbelievable!
Like multitudes of people from Wycombe, I attended the Millennium performance of the High Wycombe Music Centre at the Royal Albert Hall on Saturday evening.
Almost 800 schoolchildren of every age from the area performed the broadest range of classical and modern music in countless orchestras and ensembles to the highest levels.
The music struck multiple chords with all those lucky enough to be in attendance.
Hollywood has those gigantic letters on the hillside; Wycombe's cultural torch-bearer is the Music Centre with enormous youthful commitment and enthusiasm reciprocated by equally committed (and athletic) conductors, teachers and exciting local composers.
Let's add: 'Town of Music and Culture' under the title of the BFP and to some of those impersonal road signs that welcome strangers and visitors to Wycombe to let them know we are substantially more than a railway station in the Chilterns and properly celebrate our 'jewel in the crown'!
It's the least we should do.
