POP STAR and fast car lover Jay Kay is planning to race his way around Silverstone - in a Ford Fiesta.

The celebrity, who lives in Horsenden Manor near Princes Risborough, will leave his beloved Ferrari at home to compete in a night race being organised by motor giants Ford in September.

But Jay, whose band Jamiroquai have a list of hits including Cosmic Girl and Canned Heat, needed to get a special racing licence to compete in the event and will have to complete some qualifying races.

He said: 'I've always loved cars and have been meaning to get a licence and go motor racing for a long time. I can't wait to get behind the wheel for the night race.'

Jay is racing as part of the Ford Fiesta Celebrity Guest Car programme which has seen other pop celebrities such as Boyzone's Shane Lynch in the driving seat.

It is also rumoured that Jay, who is engaged to television personality Denise van Outen, will be borrowing one of the special Fiesta Zetecs to get to and from the famous race track - but this is to be confirmed.
