MORE than 60 women rushed to help a drag queen save the night after two saucy strippers failed to turn up at a fundraising event.

Dozens of women were eagerly awaiting the full monty from strippers Buddy Brown and Wild Thing in Piddington Village Hall on Saturday night when drag-queen host Polara told them the show was in the balance - the strippers had got lost.

The duo had phoned organiser Linda Shea to say they had arrived in Piddington, near Bicester in Oxfordshire, instead of the Bucks Piddington, many miles away near Stokenchurch.

Polara pulled out her list of male strippers and asked members of the audience with mobile phones to get calling.

Linda, 32, from Piddington, Bucks, said: 'Polara was great, she - or he - just allocated a number to each person. I think it was the last but one we called who said he could get here but it was going to take a while.'

Unfortunately bad luck was to strike again when the replacement stripper called and said he too was lost.

But, just as the members of the audience were resigned to a quiet evening, the original two strippers turned up and peeled off.

Polara, real name John Meuret, said: 'Well that's strippers for you, I just managed to keep the audience going until the strippers arrived. I'm one of these 'be prepared' people so I've always got my diary on hand. I've never been let down by two strippers before.'

Linda said: 'I don't know what I would have done if no strippers had turned up. I suppose I would have had to give everyone their money back. But I would've probably been lynched.' She added: 'Everyone really enjoyed themselves and had a good night.

'Polara was brilliant. He had an insight into women that was unbelievable and he was so, so funny.'

The event, to raise cash for village hall funds and the toddlers' group, raised about £250.
