FILM-buffs could see their cinema undergo a transformation in a £4 million refurbishment.

UCI Cinemas, which owns the cinema in Cressex, High Wycombe, said the six-screen multiplex will go through a dramatic transformation, which may be completed by next spring.

Extensive changes to the cinema will include the introduction of full stadium seating, a Californian-style bar, state-of-the-art digital projection and conferencing facilities.

UCI Cinemas is to open a new eight-screen multiplex in Maidenhead this September, their 37th cinema.

Dave Harris, vice president and general manager of UCI Cinemas, said: 'Of course, UCI High Wycombe will continue to be an important cinema in our portfolio. And, with this in mind, we have made the decision to invest £4 million to bring the building up to date and in line with our newer cinemas, which offer awesome surroundings to our guests.'

A UCI spokesman said they did not yet have full details of the work to be done or a start date, but added: 'In all likelihood we will have to close the building - but this would only be short term.'

Cllr Alan Hill (Con, Cressex and Frogmoor), of Wycombe District Council, was delighted at the news. He said: 'It's a marvellous idea. It's just where the cinema should be and it's easily accessible.'

However, UCI could face new competition - the £75million Western Sector regeneration scheme includes plans for a nine-screen multiplex cinema, possible a Warner Village complex.
