RESIDENTS fear someone could be killed on a road because of the large volume of traffic.
Homeowners in Booker, High Wycombe, say it is becoming more dangerous for pedestrians who try to cross Holmers Lane to visit the John Lewis Store.
The residents have handed in a petition of more than 400 signatures, to Buckinghamshire County Council. They want the council to put a pedestrian crossing, speed cameras and speed humps at the danger spot.
Brian Pearce, of Harman Walk, Booker, said: 'If you wanted to construct a road junction to kill somebody that would be the one. It is an accident waiting to happen. There have been about six near misses that I know of including myself and my wife.'
Residents claim the 30mph Holmers Farm Way is used as a rat-run by drivers coming off the motorway and a national speed limit road.
They are also asking for the north end of Holmers Lane to be blocked off to stop the area being used as a dumping ground for abandoned cars.
Richard Burton, spokesman for the county council, said discussions were underway with John Lewis about installing a pedestrian crossing and it is also investigating putting speed humps on Holmers Farm Way and closing Holmers Lane off Cressex Road.
Mr Burton added: 'Any traffic calming measure has got to be weighed up on its safety.'
