POLICE are appealing to an anonymous caller who gave them ground-breaking information on the driver who may have killed Paul Bowden to phone back.

The phone call came after a national appeal went out on BBC's Crimewatch last week when a name of a suspect was given, but now police need more information.

Sergeant Pete Hare of Amersham Traffic, who headed the incident room when callers phoned in, said: 'We were given a name and that is still being pursued, but really we are looking for more information from this caller to help develop this strong line of inquiry further.'

The appeal was launched on a national scale to find the driver of the car that killed student Paul, of Gryms Dyke, in Prestwood.

He had been walking back from the Orchard nightclub in Hazlemere in the early hours of June 25 on the A404 Amersham Road, near Woodrow, when he was knocked down.

Paul's cousin, Warren Lush, said that he hoped someone would come forward with information to help the police because the family are devastated by what happened.

Sgt Hare said that they are still trying to find out any information about the car involved in the incident believed to be one of three makes. The metallic blue paint found on the road and on Paul's body has been matched with that of a Vauxhall Frontera, Ford Galaxy or Mercedes M-series.

Police are asking for any further information particularly from the anonymous caller or car dealerships who may have repaired bumpers on these cars.
