A ROW has blown up over the proposed site for a sports centre and youth club in Lane End.
Members of Buckinghamshire County Council's development control sub-committee were asked last Monday to support Wycombe District Council's plan to build the complex on Handleton Common, Lane End.
But last-minute advice from county planning staff said the search should carry on because an alternative site at the Frances Edmonds School in Edmonds Road could become available.
Cllr Alfred Plumridge (Lib, Stokenchurch), opposing the plan for the Common, described the proposed building as preposterous and fantastic. He said it would not meet the needs of people on the Park Lane Estate, for which it was intended. He said: 'For one thing, they would not be able to afford the £70 annual membership.'
The district council cannot be forced to follow county advice.
