OUTRAGED villagers have threatened to block a main road in a bid to make council bosses listen to their protests about speeding.

Little Kingshill Village Society wants a blanket 30mph speed limit across the village with a 20mph limit near the school in Windsor Lane.

Anxious mothers and their children gathered at the school on Tuesday to highlight the dangers faced by infants who have to cross from the nursery school to the main school several times a day.

There is no crossing on the 40mph limit road.

Michelle O'Donoghue, 37, of Watchet Lane, who has three children, is adamant that the council must take action.

She said: 'We are not going to give up. We will block the road off if necessary.'

The mothers and children were joined by a horse outside the school on Tuesday to represent local riders who also feel threatened by speeding drivers.

Hayley Humphries, 32, whose daughter Lucy is at the nursery school, said: 'Drivers don't expect to see children crossing the road and drive far too fast. Most of them do not even know the school is there. The speed limit must be lowered.'

Village society chairman Dennis Sluman, the driving force behind the campaign, said: 'The combination of the speed of the traffic and the number of big vehicles makes the roads very dangerous.'

The society also wants a 7.5-tonne weight limit.

A 755-signature petition will be presented to Buckinghamshire County Council on September 21.
