Heath's Matthew Wojtowicz was sent off for punching Tony Haick who had his nose broken.

The two players had been involved in dialogue before the incident and after the flare-up, the injured Haick came back onto the pitch trying to continue the argument.

He was restrained by his own players and was then taken to hospital by ambulance.

On his way home from hospital Haick filed a report to police.

Chiltern Vale police spokeswoman Kate Spark confirmed yesterday that the police are investigating the matter.

She said: 'We are investigating an alleged assault at Chalfont St Peter Football Club on September 16 at approximately 4.30pm in which a 25-year-old man suffered injuries to his nose and face following an alleged assault by another player.'

Flackwell boss Laurie Craker is happy to let the authorities handle the matter.

He says he certainly won't be imposing any additional punishment on his player who, he says, was the victim of intense provocation during the match.

Meanwhile Chalfont chairman Nigel Payne, who was not at the match, said: 'We will support our player 100 per cent if he wishes to take any further action.'

As tempers flared during the match, Chalfont boss Steve Parsons was also sent off for comments he made to the referee.

The unsavoury incidents overshadowed a magnificent Flackwell performance which saw them extend their lead at the top of Division Three to two points.

Defeat was all the more painful for the struggling Saints because the Flackwell side included six of their former players.

The first half was goalless until former Saint Lee Watson broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time.

The second half was only five minutes old when another former Saint, Gary Wiltshire, doubled Heath's advantage.

Shortly afterwards Christian Bartlett added a third and midway through the second half Wojtowicz and Watson added goals four and five.

Tomorrow, Heath go to St Neots Town in the FA Vase Second Round Qualifying where they will be looking to continue their form.

If no replay is required Heath will return to Ryman third division action on Tuesday at home to Ashford Town.

Chalfont are already out and play a friendly at Edgware.
