PUPILS took part in a party in their lunch hour to mark the official opening of their new school.
Cedar Park School, in Cedar Avenue, Hazlemere, was opened by Cllr Mike Appleyard, Buckinghamshire County Council's education committee chairman, on Friday. The school, formed by the merger of The Park Middle School and The Cedars First School, uses the middle school site.
Headteacher Tony Fermor said: 'The coming together of the two schools on to one site marks a big occasion in the lives of many parents and children in Hazlemere.
'It is wonderful to have all the children together at last. Everyone was so excited coming to school on Tuesday. The staff have worked so hard through the summer holidays to make sure the school looked perfect for our first day.'
The merger was agreed in September 1999 but younger pupils at the first school were unable to join the new school until a major building programme at the middle school was completed. A new nursery/reception unit, music and resources room, administration block and extended library have been put in.
