ALAN Chandler, a director of chartered surveyors Stupples & Co in High Wycombe, has taken on the mantle of presidency of the Thame & District Lions Club.
This is the second time that Alan, who lives in Sydenham, Oxfordshire, has been president of a Lions Club, holding the office at the Great Missenden and Prestwood Club from 1988 to 1990.
He said: "I find the Lions very fulfilling and necessary even in our affluent society. There are many people out there in social and financial need, and if it wasn't for the Lions Clubs, or indeed other service organisations, this need would not be identified or aided in any way."
Thame & District Lions Club was formed more than 20 years ago and has raised more than £100,000 for local causes during that time.
Events planned for 2000/2001 include a gigantic bottle tombola to be held at Thame Town Hall on January 20 next year.
