An angry county councillor has hit out at Princes Risborough Town Council after it refused to help fund a road safety scheme.
Buckinghamshire County Councillor Dennis Green Green (Con), who represents Princes Risborough, accused the town council of not supporting his proposal for a push-button pelican crossing in the town because the councillors were more concerned about their own "pet schemes".
The scathing attack came after county council highways chiefs agreed to add a zebra crossing near to residential flats for the elderly on the busy New Road running through Princes Risborough before March.
Cllr Green wanted the push-button pelican crossing, costing about £15,000, for extra safety and expected the town council to chip in.
However, David Allworth, chairman of Princes Risborough Town Council, said: "People in Risborough pay through their council tax for the maintenance to the highways network. They shouldn't be expected to help finance projects again that's double taxation."
