ALMOST £30,000 has been given to a town council to clear up a lay-by which has been branded an eyesore by residents.
At a meeting of the South Bucks Local Area Committee last week, it was agreed that Beaconsfield Town Council should be granted £29,500 to carry out the refurbishment work.
The lay-by that brought the complaints is on the northbound A355 off junction two of the M40 .
Cllr Teresa Rosell (Con, North Ward), who is a Beaconsfield Town Council representative on the committee, was the driving force behind the proposal.
She said: 'The lay-bys are a real mess. At the moment they are very dangerous as drivers stopping in them do not have enough room to open their doors.
'This is fantastic news, not just for Beaconsfield but for people coming off the motorway and going to Amersham. Hopefully the funds for the southbound lay-by will be granted next year.'
The Mayor of Beaconsfield, Cllr Malcolm Dunlop, said the lay-bys had been a contentious issue between the town and county councils for nearly 30 years.
He added: 'I'm jubilant. It's excellent news and will improve the safety and appearance of the road into Beaconsfield.
'Councillor Rosell must be congratulated. She was instrumental in this development.'
