Chesham 3 - Wallingford 2 (Ryman League) at The Meadow, Chesham
Stand-in Chesham boss Bob Dowie heaped praise on the Ryman Premier Division outfit after their 3-2 FA Cup second qualifying round win over Wallingford on Saturday but admitted: "I don't want the job full time."
Dowie, who has a scouting job at Queens Park Rangers, says it would not be fair of him to take on the manager's job, because of his commitments to QPR.
But former QPR player Alan McDonald is in the running for the job, with Dowie tipping him for the post that has changed hands eight times in the last four years.
McDonald, who won more than 50 Northern Ireland caps, would bring a wealth of experience and contacts to the club.
On Saturday Dowie, the former St Albans and Aylesbury boss stepped into the breach, as a favour to chairman David Pembroke, after John Kendall walked out on the club at the beginning of last week to take up the manager's job at St Albans.
Dowie admitted after Saturday's win: "Chesham is a sleeping giant. Everything here is ready to go for Conference football.
"They've got the backbone of a nice team. I think whoever comes in could turn it around quite quickly."
But the temporary boss says Chesham won't be going up this season.
"This season should have been used as one to build on. I don't think they've got the squad here this season to go up. The composition of the squad is not right yet and there's not enough competition for places.
"You've got five, six or seven players that are good enough. But there's not enough seasoned players."
Dowie guided the Generals to a 3-2 win over Wallingford on Saturday, despite seeing them go a goal down in the opening minute.
Dave Stephenson had got them back on level pegging just before the break, burying a corner kick with a bullet header, as Chesham finally made their pressure count.
Six minutes after the re-start Dudley Campbell put them in front with an excellent shot on the turn and Simon Harland looked to have put it beyond reach with his lob over the keeper.
But former Marlow and Thame player Andy Shildrick gave Chesham a late scare with his injury-time strike.
Dowie admitted: "At 3-1 up I was very pleased indeed, I though their second goal took a bit of a shine off the performance."
