UNEMPLOYED mother Sarah Bowden-Ward said she preferred smoking dope to taking prescription tablets to control her depression, a court heard.
The 24-year-old, of Hughenden Road, High Wycombe, said smoking a spliff made her feel better, after pleading guilty to possessing cannabis, a class B controlled drug.
High Wycombe Magistrates' Court heard, on Wednesday, that the mother-of-one was caught possessing 0.6 grams of cannabis near Oakridge Road, High Wycombe, on July 25.
Abi Nixon, prosecuting, said: 'She saw a police vehicle and covered her face and ducked. Officers searched her and found a packet containing vegetable matter in the waistband of her trousers.
'She said the vegetable matter was seeds from green trees. The vegetable matter was analysed and found to be 0.6 grams of cannabis.'
Bowden-Ward told the court she became hooked on drugs when she was homeless.
She added: 'I am really depressed. That is why I am smoking drugs. I would rather smoke a spliff than take depression tablets.
'I know I should not, but I need to for comfort.'
Bowden-Ward was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £25 costs.
