February 22, 2001 11:56: WEATHERMAN Bill Giles has warned that global warming will be disastrous for the world if pollution of the atmosphere does not stop.
The former BBC weather forecaster, who comes from Chinnor, told a conference in Cornwall on climate change and fuel poverty, that action needs to be taken immediately.
Mr Giles said that while temperatures in the UK would rise during this century, the effect on Africa would be devastating.
He said: "Places will become uninhabitable."
He added: "The human race is living on the brink. We have got to find some solution."
Mr Giles believes that winter floods like those this year could become commonplace as well as a warm summers by the middle of the century.
Mr Giles will be at Princes Risborough Upper School, Merton Road, on Saturday, March 3, with a weather show.
Tickets cost £6 which includes a glass of wine. Doors open at 7.30pm for an 8pm start and proceeds go to the First Steps School, Princes Risborough.
