February 22, 2001 11:50: A TEENAGE mother has complained about the condition of her room in a hostel and is asking to be rehoused.
Danielle Houghton, 18, of Saunderton Hostel, has been living there since May. She has a four-month-old baby, Cheyanne, who she says keeps feeling ill.
She said: "My room is damp. I take my baby to my mother's every other weekend and she recovers but then she becomes ill again.
She added that Cheyanne has been taken to the doctor who said it was normal for a child but Miss Houghton said that the baby had been ill for some time.
Miss Houghton also said the bathroom has damp in it and the shower needs repairing. She added that the room, which she shares with Cheyanne and the baby's father Wayne, is too small for the three of them.
"It isn't a family room," she said.
She added that she has wanted to be rehoused since May but Wycombe District Council has yet to do so.
But a spokesman for the council said that it had not offered Miss Houghton alternative accommodation because of rent arrears.
He added that repairs were made to the flat to replace the extractor fan in the bathroom, and to reseal the shower sides.
The hostel also has a weekly visit from the health visitor and no health problem has been reported for baby Cheyanne.
