February 27, 2001 10:50: I WOULD like to thank the many Thames Water customers who have given so generously to our annual appeal on behalf of WaterAid.

Last year, donations totalled almost £150,000, which will provide a major boost for the charity in its work to help some of the poorest in Africa and Asia to plan, build and maintain their own safe water supplies.

In the next few weeks we will again be encouraging our customers to respond to this year's appeal.

It costs just £10.69 to provide a person in Ghana with safe water for life so the money already donated will have achieved a tremendous amount. This year we are hoping your readers will help make our appeal an even bigger success.

Thames Water will again be funding the printing and postage of the charity's appeal. More details can be found in the bright blue leaflet which will be enclosed with customers' annual accounts.

Your readers' support will help WaterAid to ensure that children can instead spend their time gaining an education, or simply enjoying childhood like others.

Donations really will make a lasting difference.
