March 1, 2001 16:25: WORSHIPPERS witnessed their new church finally being dedicated after months of delays.
Building work on the Church of St Mary's, in Glory Mill Lane, Wooburn Green, was delayed at the end of last year due to the severe weather conditions and its dedication had to be put off for a month.
The new church finally celebrated the special ceremony on Shrove Tuesday led by the Bishop of Buckingham, the Right Rev Michael Hill.
Derek Burden, vicar of St Paul's Church, Wooburn Green, and the new St Mary's, said: "We hope to play an important part in the life of the local community. We are delighted with the church building that Taywood Homes have given us.
"We have had several services there for the last two or three weeks and are having about 30 to 40 people for every Sunday service."
When the original church, in Boundary Road, Wooburn Green, closed the congregation numbered only four or five because of the state of the church.
When Taywood Homes was granted planning permission to build homes on part of the former Glory Mill site it agreed to build a new church.
"Its a flexible and modern building," explained Mr Burden. "It is a place that we can use every day rather than just once a week."
