March 2, 2001 10:33: WYCOMBE Wanderers took time off from preparing for their cup clash with Leicester to indulge in a very different form of training.
A team led by club captain Keith Ryan entered the first High Wycombe pancake race on Tuesday.
The other teams did not have a prayer in the best costume contest when faced by a team of clergy in full dress from All Saints Parish Church, High Wycombe.
A team from Argos won the race which also featured teams from Sainsbury's and Wilkinson's among others.
Actor and Bucks Free Press columnist Colin Baker helped with the prizegiving.
The town's Shopmobility charity organised the event which raised more than £400 for the charity.
Co-organiser and High Wycombe Town Centre Manager Chris Mansfield said: "We raised a good sum of money for the charity but this was a first-time event and we want to try and establish something in the town's calendar. We will certainly do it again next year."
