No, not Roger Moore! But if you’ve read this week’s Buckinghamshire Advertiser, you’ll know about the special visitor to St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Chalfont St Peter; the relics of a saint.
I must confess to not being aware of this saint before I read this story. Therese of Lisieux only died in 1897 at the age of twenty-four. She spent most of her life in a convent, and wrote a text 'The Story of a Soul' where she expressed her love for God. This became hugely influential- and she was canonised in 1925.
By the way, I’m not a Catholic or even a Christian, so I won’t be going to see the relics. What I surprised at was the location. In my ignorance I thought that only large cathedral cities could display these saintly relics- the previous host was Oxford-, places like York and Canterbury. But I was wrong.
The relics will be on display on the 8th and 9th October.
