A LOCAL Muslim organisation fears the latest conflict between Israel and Palestine may be used as propaganda by Islamic extremists.
The Wycombe Muslim Communication Forum (WMCF), which represents eight different organisations in the area, is calling on Wycombe MP Paul Goodman and the Prime Minister Gordon Brown to condemn the conflict.
Israel started the latest assault on the Gaza Strip on December 27, launching air strikes which have left about 300 people dead, and threatening further military action in retaliation to rocket attacks launched on Israel from the area.
Zahid Jawed, a spokesman for the group, said: “WMCF condemns in the strongest terms Israel's military campaign in the Gaza Strip.
“The population of Gaza has already been suffering from an economic blockade for some years, and this will make things unbearable.
“Peace is in the interest of Israel, Palestine and of all nations, including Britain. Britain is committed to reducing the threat of extremists who will no doubt exploit this situation for their own selfish needs and find new recruits.”
A multi-denominational prayer meeting for people affected by the conflict is also planned.
