Once again a Bank Holiday weekend is upon us and usual very little has been organised for us to do. With no shows, displays or other attractions taking place in Wycombe over the weekend the town’s people have been left to make their own entertainment. I was thinking of going to the complex to have a look at bowling alley but it’s just my luck that it caught fire on Saturday and now it’s closed until further notice.
I have just discovered that for once we are about to be doing something in Wycombe that seems to be the rage at the moment. London did it last week and Wycombe will do it next week. Of course I am referring to Mayor making. Yes, it’s that time of year when the big wigs of the town gather on Frogmoor to weigh in the new Mayor and weigh out the old one. The actual ceremony takes place next Saturday.
Of course the role of the Mayor in Wycombe is more of a ceremonial role than in London. This made me start thinking about what would happen if we had an elected Mayor who had the power to make major changes just like in London.
An elected Mayor in Wycombe would be very busy as there are so many things that need doing such as building Park & Ride’s in the Hazlemere, West Wycombe and Loudwater areas, re-instating weekly black bin collections, installing a proper fountain on Frogmoor and you never know an elected Mayor with power may even get those faded fire station doors painted.
Yes, an elected Mayor for Wycombe just like in London would be a good idea. There are so many important things that need doing in Wycombe yet at the moment there appears to be complete paralysis when it comes to actually getting them done as bureaucracy, red tape and bungling appear to be linked with any major project in the town.
Would you like Wycombe to have an elected Mayor with the power to get things done?
