Well, it’s now less than two weeks to the opening of the new complex. The lorries bringing bricks and cement have long since disappeared from our roads and have been replaced by even bigger lorries carrying the items the shops hope to sell to the crowds of shoppers who are expected to turn up.

Not only are the number of days to the grand opening running down but the shops that are moving to the complex are being run down too. For several weeks now a major shop that is moving has had problems with their fridges. With water dripping on to the floor one had to negotiate one’s way around the paper towels and other absorbent materials laid on the floor to mop up the water.

I needed a new pair of trousers this week and went to the same shop to buy them. Unfortunately they do not stock the larger sizes and were unable to order them especially for me because the old shop is no longer taking special orders ahead of their new branch opening.

Today I was in the same shop again and after putting all my groceries on the conveyor belt I discovered the conveyor had broken. It was a total farce putting the items in my basket once they had been checked out while running back to the items on the belt to move them up closer to the cashier.

It’s a shame to see our faithful old shops that have served us so well over the years being run down to closure. Indeed it’s farcical that the conveyor belts don’t work. I am almost tempted to say that it will be a good thing when the complex opens but that may be taking things a little too far.
