Usually I prefer to buy things the traditional way by using good old-fashioned cash in a shop however there are a few things that can only be obtained on the internet. Of course this poses the problem of delivery. I’m sure you already know of my feelings towards the post office and the service (or lack of service) we receive from them.
I recently bought an item on the internet from a company based in Scotland. Unfortunately it was out of stock at their warehouse so they had to order the item from their supplier who was based in the south. By the time the supplier had sent the item to Scotland and the people in Scotland had sent it on to me the item had travelled the length on the United Kingdom twice! How environmentally friendly is that?
Rather than use the post office the item was being sent to my house using a courier. From my experience couriers are a law unto themselves. If you are not in when they call they will leave a card. If the second delivery attempt is unsuccessful you have to go the their depot to collect your package or if you are really unlucky they will return the package to the sender. This is all well and good if they have a depot close by but most of them are based miles away in such far-fetched places as Slough and Aylesbury.
My item arrived yesterday but as you may have guessed I was not it. Honestly do they really think someone will be at private house at 9.00am? Do they not realise that some people have to go out to work in the daytime?
Luckily I made sure the courier has a depot in Wycombe so it looks as if I will have to go on a trip to collect my parcel. Oh, the joys of internet shopping.
