Chartwell Manor Care Home has received a ‘Good’ rating in its first inspection since opening in September 2022.

The CQC assessment took place from July 30 to September 17, 2024, with site visits by inspectors on July 30, August 14, and August 20.

The care home in Nimrod Street, Aylesbury, provides nursing care for up to 61 people. All quality statements were assessed during this inspection.

The report highlighted that residents were supported to be safe and were protected from the risk of abuse.

Staff and management demonstrated a strong understanding of the residents' needs.

Staff treated residents with kindness and compassion, contributing to a positive and friendly culture within the service.

Residents were supported to maintain good health, with regular reviews conducted by GPs and community healthcare professionals.

They also enjoyed a variety of activities designed to keep their minds and bodies active, promoting overall well-being.

The leadership and management at Chartwell Manor were noted as effective, with staff working well with other agencies to meet residents' needs.

The report also mentioned that staff felt they were in a supportive working environment and were encouraged to contribute ideas for improving practices.

There were effective governance processes in place to ensure continuous improvement.

However, the report indicated that minor improvements were needed in areas such as involving residents in managing risks, staffing levels, the environment, and ensuring dignity and equity in access to services.

Feedback from residents and their family members was largely positive.

While some expressed a desire for more staff on duty, everyone reported feeling safe.

Residents and relatives praised the facilities, particularly the garden and bistro area.

However, some comments were made regarding the design of the building and its furnishings.

Some residents struggled to get out of chairs, and there were concerns about the height and cleanliness of the furniture.

Residents felt involved in decisions about their care and were supported to receive visitors when they wished.

Visitors were welcomed by staff, and many brought their dogs to join in activities in the garden.

The care and treatment provided met the needs of residents while promoting equality and diversity.

Care Home Manager Hazel Greenway expressed her pride in the care home’s achievements.

She said: "It has been an incredible first two years for all of us at Chartwell Manor, driven by a fantastic team, determined to deliver the very best for those in our care.

"I am thrilled to see all of that being reflected in great reviews, internal accolades and now this inspection report."

"I am so proud to see the feedback those living with us and their relatives gave to the inspectors, especially the comments about how caring and committed this team is and how well we all know those in our care."
