Passenger services on the Oxford Tube are set to see a major overhaul.
Starting from December 2, the bus service will be changing its routes and timetables based on customer demand and traffic pattern analysis.
The changes come after the completion of roadworks that have been disrupting the Oxford Tube service throughout 2024.
These include the HS2 works at Hanger Lane and West Cross Route roadworks, which had been affecting journeys since May and lasted until mid-November respectively.
A spokesperson for Oxford Tube said: "We would like to take this opportunity to thank our many customers who have shown patience and empathy towards our drivers whilst dealing with the numerous roadworks which have disrupted the Oxford Tube service during 2024."
The coach service, which operates 24 hours a day, promises more journeys during peak times and fewer during quieter periods, aiming for improved punctuality and travel time.
The new timetable will include more journeys from Oxford to London on Friday afternoons, additional evening return trips to Oxford, and a new off-peak connection from London to Bicester Village.
However, due to consistently low passenger demand, the service to and from High Wycombe will be discontinued.
The spokesperson added: "With consistently low passenger demand to and from High Wycombe over the 12 months since it was added to the Oxford Tube network, we have chosen to redeploy our resources to deliver a quicker, more direct service into London.
"This change will benefit the overwhelming majority of our passengers, who regularly travel on the Oxford Tube."
As part of the changes, the Oxford Tube has also announced a review of its fares.
A new DayRider ticket will allow passengers to use Stagecoach West local buses and Oxford Tube services for the same price as a return, valid between 4am and 3.59am the next day.
Prices for regular passengers with 7-day, 12-trip, or longer-term tickets will remain the same, but there will be a slight increase to single and return tickets.
The updated Oxford Tube app will offer the best value for ticket purchases.
The spokesperson continued: "We are making changes to routes and timetables to enhance our overall Oxford Tube service.
"These adjustments, based on customer demand and analysis of traffic patterns and passenger movements, aim to improve punctuality and travel time.
"We are confident these changes will benefit the majority of our passengers."
