A former homeless man is organising a Christmas event for people who have struggled this year.
The 49-year-old from Totteridge will fund the event himself, inspired by the support he received during his own difficult time.
He said: "My marriage broke down in January and through no fault of my own was then homeless.
"I was living in my van for 3 weeks and it was probably the worst experience of my life."
Now living with his parents, he is planning for a brighter future and wants to spread some joy to others who have faced hard times.
The Christmas event will take place at Yates in High Wycombe on Thursday, December 19, and will include a free buffet, tea, coffee, mulled wine, and hopefully entertainment, such as a DJ and a choir playing Christmas tunes.
Yates has also offered additional free items for the occasion.
The man, who has lived in High Wycombe all his life, said: "I want to reach out to many who too have struggled this year and want to help where I can.
"I love Christmas because it's a great time to make people happy and reach out to those who need a little something."
Having experienced loneliness himself, he found solace in keeping busy with daily walks and exercising, and he acknowledges that not everyone has the support he received.
Steve now works for an amazing company called Cleanscapes.
He hopes the event will bring some festive cheer to those in need.
He said: "I've lived in High Wycombe all my life and I like the people who genuinely do care and help, I know there are a lot people in this town with goodness.
"I currently reside at my parent's house since but I'm hopeful after Christmas to have my own flat."
The free Christmas event starts at 1.00pm until 4.00pm and people can email Steve on steveo1975@live.co.uk or inbox Steveo Higgins on Facebook if they would like to attend.
