The BFP was asked to try out the Coach House in Wooburn Green after it underwent a huge renovation project during the summer months.
We happily accepted their invitation and thought, as this is a quintessentially British pub, we thought we’d keep up our end of the bargain and attend the establishment on a Sunday, in order to have a roast.
Upon our visit, we were greeted by several smiley and cheerful waitresses, who were next to a huge wall map of Buckinghamshire.
The map, which dated back to the 1800s, was a pleasant surprise as it added that local and intimate feel to the pub in a village where everyone seems to know each other, or of each other.
For starters, we opted to have the Moroccan Lamb meatballs with flatbread, along with smoked bacon and sausage Scotch egg, and both dishes were made to perfection.
The lamb meatballs were soaked in this delicious thick sauce whilst the Scotch Egg wasn’t something you can get in a meal deal on an idle Tuesday lunchtime.
It was the size of an adult fist, and the breadcrumbs around it were very crispy.
The bacon and sausage mixed with the mayo really gave the dish this thick savoury taste and despite it being so huge, it didn’t feel me up before the main.
We then moved on to the main course.
I had the roasted salmon which came with confit leeks, roasted salsify (a mix of potatoes and parsnips), and butter sauce.
My partner chose the roast beef which was accompanied with cabbage, honey & mustard roasted parsnips, roast potatoes, mashed potatoes mixed with carrots, Yorkshire pudding and gravy.
It goes without saying that both our plates were clean by the end.
The salmon skin was crispy, the meat of the fish was soft and its butter sauce added that much-needed flavour.
The beef was also superb.
It was juicy, tender, you had its juices and gravy trickle down your mouth, and the Yorkshire pudding was a good size.
Overall, the main dishes hit the spot.
Finally, to end our stay at this beautiful hidden gem in South Buckinghamshire, we went for a sticky toffee pudding for dessert and my guest had the apple pie.
Both puddings were perfect.
I cannot recommend the Coach House enough – Ben and Krystel were brilliant hosts and from what I saw, all the guests had a great time.
