It’s no secret that Wycombe residents loves a night out.

Often praised for some of the best student nightlife in the country, our region has long had a vibrant scene of nightclubs.

We’ve turned back the clock and taken a look through our archives at some of the nightclubs across the region which are no longer around.

From floors "stickier than flypaper" to a 7am opening licence, here is our tribute to five of the town's most memorable former venues.

Pure and Life on Mars, Octagon Parade

(Image: Google) A recent casualty in the nightclub scene, news of Pure's closure was confirmed last August, prompting former partygoers to fondly remember the good old days. Or the old days, at least - Royce Smallbone's most enduring memory was of the club floors: "Stickier than flypaper".

Another resident described the "80s and 90s music downstairs and RnB upstairs" as well as the unique atmosphere created by "five bottles of VK for £5, guaranteed heartburn and no windows".

Woollies was a popular choice, as well as Tuesdays (formerly the Bucks Club) and Oceans.

When I worked at the pub it was a mad dash after we cleared up and the bouncers always let us in for free,” and Paul Brooks commented: “I remember going to Oceans for my 18th but I was 14 and there was a prize for best dancing to a song by Tight Fit called Lion Sleeps Tonight – so I laid down and pretended to be asleep and won the champagne for originality.”

The Orchard, Hazlemere

The Orchard nightclub in Hazlemere was a local hotspot for over 20 years throughout the 1980s and '90s before temporarily being known as the Blue Room, then as The Orchard Reloaded in 2008.

Craig Saunders said he remembered walking back to Wycombe town centre from The Orchard because “we were too tight/skint to get a taxi”, adding: “[It] was a revelation when Club Eden opened.”

Club X/The Attic, Leigh Street

Nigh Busby commented: “What about Club X in Leigh Street? In an old industrial factory. Was a great venue,” while David Stratford joked: “Lobbing coke cans at the Bay City Rollers. They played down the Twilight club one Saturday afternoon before they made a name.”
