A petition is calling for a new pedestrian crossing in High Wycombe.

Residents have urged Buckinghamshire Council to take action at the Green Hill/Coates Lane junction on Hughenden Road.

According to the petition, the junction is particularly hazardous during rush hours due to heavy traffic from multiple directions, including the town centre, Terriers, Totteridge, Downley, and The Pastures.

The petitioners highlighted the danger posed to pedestrians, especially with the nearest official crossing being 'more than 350 metres away'.

This has led to pedestrians crossing unsafely at the junction, which they claim has resulted in accidents, including one on Friday, November 8, where two children were struck by a vehicle.

They were not seriously harmed.

The petition reads: "We fear that without a new pedestrian crossing, future accidents could be more severe or even fatal.

"We strongly urge Bucks Council to urgently create a new pedestrian crossing close to this junction to ensure pedestrian safety.

"Additionally, traffic calming measures should be considered to reduce speeds and prevent dangerous driving along this section of the road.

"Taking these actions will greatly enhance the safety and wellbeing of all road users."

The petition also noted that the area is expected to become busier with the construction of new homes on the nearby Glynswood estate and the planned development at Terriers Farm.

The junction's proximity to Hughenden Park and two bus stops also contributes to its popularity as a pedestrian crossing point.

The petition, which was started on November 19, 2024, will run until December 17.

So far, it has gathered 48 signatures.

The full petition can be viewed on Buckinghamshire Council's website, and residents are encouraged to add their support if they feel strongly about the issue.
