A disqualified driver who led police on a chase through High Wycombe before crashing into railings has been jailed.

Marian Stancu took off from police after he was spotted cutting up other traffic on West Wycombe Road.

The 32-year-old pulled out in front of Roads Policing officers and then failed to stop when asked to do so.

He continued to drive dangerously, eventually crashing into railings at the roundabout near Wycombe Police Station.

Stancu then assaulted a police officer before being arrested.

The incident took place at around 2.50am on Saturday, July 20.

Stancu, of Micklefield Road, High Wycombe was charged and later pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, failing to provide a specimen for analysis, disqualified driving, driving without insurance and common assault of an emergency worker.

The pleas were entered at Aylesbury Crown Court on July 22.

Stancu was sentenced to one year and six months imprisonment at the same court on Wednesday, November 13.

Investigating officer PC Richard Lunn of the Roads Policing Unit, said: “This case is another example of the dangers of being reckless whilst driving a motor vehicle.

“It is lucky that Stancu did not crash into a member of the public.

“Stancu then made the conscious decision to try and drive away from officers and flee justice, but I am pleased he has now been convicted and jailed.
