A salon in a former town centre bank building could be turned into flats.

Plans have been submitted to convert the Old Bank House on Corporation Street, High Wycombe into two new homes.

The historic building is currently occupied by Chimerique Salon, but under plans received by the council on November 8, it could be made into a two-bedroom flat and a one-bedroom flat.

Both homes would have their own kitchen, bathroom, living area and bedrooms and have been designed to provide 'comfortable and modern living spaces' according to the developer.

No dedicated parking spaces would be provided though the plans say public transport links and public parking facilities are located nearby.

The developer said: "The change of use from a commercial bank to residential flats will have a positive impact on the surrounding area by contributing to the local housing supply.

"The conversion of the ground floor into two flats will bring the building in line with the upper floors, which are already used for residential purposes.

"The proposal is expected to improve the vitality of the area by increasing footfall and providing accommodation that caters to local housing demand.

"The design of the flats ensures that there is minimal impact on neighbouring properties in terms of privacy, light, and noise."

The external appearance of the building, which is not listed. is expected to remain largely unchanged with the façade, windows, and entrances being retained.

Small changes could be made however to accommodate residential access though the developer has vowed to 'preserve the character of the building'.

Energy-saving measures will also be taken including double-glazed windows, energy-efficient lighting, and heating systems that comply with modern standards.

The applicant added: "The building's central location also encourages the use of public transport and cycling, reducing the reliance on private vehicles.

"The proposal aligns with the objectives of the Wycombe District Local Plan and national planning policies, which support the conversion of underused commercial spaces into residential units, especially in central urban areas."

The proposals are due to be considered by Buckinghamshire Council by January 3 at the latest.

A public consultation is yet to start on the plans that were first submitted to the council on October 14.
