Plans to create a new cocktail and tapas bar in a Buckinghamshire village have been scrapped, planners have said.

Sam Sandhu’s application for 24 to 26 Oxford Road in New Denham has been withdrawn and closed, Buckinghamshire Council confirmed, meaning no decision on it will be made.

The applicant submitted his bid to use the property as a restaurant and takeaway called ‘Syrup Bar’ and to make changes to its internal layout in April.

The building was most recently used as a showroom by Romans Haus, a luxury German kitchen and bathroom company.

Mr Sandhu’s plans showed new booth seating, tables and chairs, an entrance lobby, a bar area, a kitchen and toilets.

The withdrawal of the applicant’s plans come after he was granted a premises licence earlier this year, which permitted alcohol sales until 1am on Fridays and Saturdays.

The permission was mentioned in Mr Sandhu’s planning application by his agent Adnan Jasrai, who also addressed concerns over parking.

Mr Jasrai said: “The area already has strict parking regulations, including double yellow lines and enforcement by parking wardens, which should deter any improper parking.

“Additionally, there is an NCP car park nearby, which is monitored by CCTV and likely to be preferred by customers.”

The agent also responded to environmental health officers’ concerns about ‘toxic fumes’ from the restaurant’s kitchen, saying that an extraction system would be installed.

He said: “The extractor will exhaust fumes from the rear side of the building, near the shutter.”
