Beaconsfield MP, Joy Morrissey has been appointed Shadow Deputy Chief Whip as Kemi Badenoch selects her top team.

The Conservative, who has represented the area since the election in December 2019, announced her new role on social media.

It comes after Kemi Badenoch won the Tory leadership race, beating Robert Jenrick in the final round of voting.

Ms Morrissey previously served as Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Prime Minister under Boris Johnson in early 2022.

She wrote on X: "I was both delighted and honoured to be asked by Kemi Badenoch to serve as the new Shadow Deputy Chief Whip.

"As each day goes by of this Labour Government the need for a strong Opposition to hold them to account in Parliament becomes ever more vital.

"Their attack on free speech, aspiration, businesses, pensioners, farmers and working people is about putting ideology before sound governing.

"I am looking forward to playing my role in ensuring a united and effective Conservative Parliamentary Party and supporting Kemi as she renews our Party and we seek to return to Government."
