Planned upgrades to woodland paths in Wycombe woods will be completed in 2025, Buckinghamshire Council has said.

Ongoing improvements to bridleways are being carried out in Keep Hill Woods from near Abbey View Primary Academy down to Wycombe Rye.

The work includes laying down ‘smooth and durable’ surfacing to pathways to improve them for people walking, cycling, wheeling and horse riding.

The council said: “The surface includes a light golden-coloured top dressing to soften the look within the woodland.

“The permeable surface has a rubber crumb texture, soft for horses’ hooves but firm for walkers and cyclists, and for occasional access for Chiltern Rangers maintenance vehicles.”

An update on the work was presented to a meeting of the Buckinghamshire Local Access Forum on Wednesday morning.

While the overall project is set to be completed early next year, the main phase of works should be finished this month.

The upgrades to routes through Keep Hill Woods are being funded by an external grant from Active Travel England, as well as ‘Section 106 contributions’, the cash paid by developers to mitigate the impact of new housing.

Jonathan Clark, the council’s strategic access officer said the project aims to ‘link’ Wycombe town centre, The Rye and the A40 London Road area with new housing developments at Abbey Barn Park and Pine Trees.
