A councillor has said 'people should feel safe where they live' after a man who attacked a police officer with a crossbow pleaded guilty.

Downley councillor Mazamal Hussain has spoken out following Jason King's guilty pleas after he attacked PC Curtis Foster in May.

Officers were called to reports that a man in his 60s had been stabbed in School Close, before King was filmed shooting a crossbow at the officer.

On Thursday (October 31), the 54-year-old of School Close admitted section 20 grievous bodily harm and affray.

He'd previously pleaded guilty to section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent, possession of an offensive weapon and possession of a bladed article.

Now Cllr Hussain has called for a sentence that is "long enough for him to understand that his actions have serious consequences."

He added: "People should feel safe where they live.

"Like other residents, I was horrified to hear of this incident that happened in my ward in May.

"I am grateful for the bravery of the police that were on duty that day and I hope that the officer and the man who was injured have completely healed and recovered from this ordeal.

"This is yet another example of police officers' bravery and courage to protect us public. I am glad that Mr King pleaded guilty to what he had done.

"This saves witnesses going through the ordeal of a trial."

King is due to be sentenced at Aylesbury Crown Court on January 31, 2025.

He suffered 'potentially life-changing injuries' during the incident after armed officers opened fire following the crossbow shot.

PC Foster, who suffered an injury to the leg, and the man in his 60s were taken to hospital but discharged that same day.

The officer has since made a full recovery and has returned to duties.
