A care home in Olney has been prevented from providing health and adult social care services after receiving a low CQC rating twice in a row.
Bay House in Olney was put into special measures by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) after safety issues were found during an inspection in November 2023.
During a second visit this spring, the home for elderly people and dementia patients was found not to have improved on the indicated fronts and earned a second ‘inadequate’ rating.
The most recent inspection revealed “three breaches of legal regulation in relation to safe care and treatment, safeguarding and governance”, with overall levels of care “not meeting the expected standards”.

These included broken fire doors, damaged and rotten flooring and ineffective hygiene that “put people at risk of infection and ill health”.
According to the BBC, the closure is due to regulatory action taken against Olney Care Homes, the operator of Bay House, which has been de-registered by the CQC as a result of the findings.
The broadcaster also reported that there have been no residents at Bay House since the provider’s registration was cancelled on October 8.
