At around 6pm on that day, King was involved in an argument with a neighbour on School Close.
This resulted in the 54-year-old stabbing the victim, a man in his 60s, in the stomach before leaving.
The emergency services were immediately called and when the first, unarmed officers arrived, King started shooting at them with a crossbow out of the window of his address.
Armed officers were then deployed to the scene, but King then came out of the address with the crossbow, he shot PC Foster in the leg.
The officer was treated for his injuries and has since returned to duties.
A police dog handler and dog confronted King, before armed officers then arrived and confronted the 54-year-old, shooting him in the abdomen.
The assault victim was also treated in hospital for minor injuries and was discharged on the same day.
Following the incident, King was taken to hospital under police supervision with potentially life-changing injuries.
He was discharged 10 days later, when he was arrested and taken to police custody.
King was eventually charged on May 22.
He has been remanded into custody and will appear at the same court for sentencing on January 31, 2025.
Senior investigating officer Detective Inspector Nick Hind, of the Major Crime Unit, said: “This was a serious incident and thankfully, the victims in this case, including our officer, have made full recoveries.
“I would like to thank the local community for their support during and after the incident.
“King has now admitted the offences and will be sentenced in due course.”
