A man has been jailed for attacking a burglary victim with a knife and hammer and trying to steal a dog.

Jason Grange, 32, of no fixed abode, smashed the windowpane of a home on Brimstone Lane in Aylesbury last December in a dispute over a dog.

After the dog was taken away by someone who'd accompanied him to the address, Grange threatened a man in his twenties with a hammer and tried to take another dog from the property – but was pushed away by its owner.

He returned to the same house later that day, broke in and attacked the victim with both a knife and a hammer.

Grange and other offenders also smashed a TV and stole watches and keys from the property.

He was arrested on January 18 and pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary, attempted robbery and criminal damage at Aylesbury Crown Court on Wednesday, October 23.

He was sentenced to eight years and three months in prison.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Emily King, part of Aylesbury’s Priority Crime Team, said: “Burglary is an offence that greatly affects our communities and can be extremely distressing for victims, and I am pleased that Grange has been brought to justice so the victim can now have closure.

“This conviction and sentence reflect the severity and seriousness with which these offences are taken, and is a warning that these types of offences will not be tolerated.

“I would like to specifically thank Detective Constable Daniel Page and PCT Crime Co-ordinator Jim Forrest for their help on the investigation as they were instrumental in bringing Grange to justice.”
