A department store in High Wycombe has reopened after a multi-million-pound makeover – with a new cafe, brands and beauty counters to boot.

The John Lewis on Holmers Farm Way unveiled the newly expanded beauty hall space last week, making it one of the first branches to benefit from a £800 million investment scheme into the retailer's brick-and-mortar presence across the UK.

A three-month-long overhaul of the space, which opened in Wycombe in 1988, gave contractors plenty of time to expand the unit's beauty hall to cover 8,600 square feet and cram it with new big-name brands from Charlotte Tilbury to MAC and Guerlain.

New products on the shelves of its nail and hair department also include Larry King, Moroccan Oil and Wella Professionals  – with Alison Gilbert, head of the local branch, suggesting that changes had cemented John Lewis' status as "the leading beauty destination in High Wycombe".

The store also now has an Ori Caffe on its first floor, serving sandwiches, pastries, cakes and drinks to hungry shoppers and those looking for a post-beauty treatment nibble.

And a dedicated fragrance area has been installed alongside new beauty counters, adding up to a floorspace expansion of around 15 per cent.

Design and stock upgrades of John Lewis' fashion, home, nursery and electronics departments were also included in the makeover.

Ms Gilbert said: “Customers can now enjoy a huge range of services including makeovers, scent consultations, facials, massages, brow and lash treatments all under one roof, and receive the expert advice we are known for from our team of beauty professionals.”

Executive director for the brand, Peter Ruis added: “The buzz is back in John Lewis and we’re giving our customers even more reasons to shop in our brilliant stores.

“We’re backing ourselves with significant investment to ensure customers get the exceptional quality, outstanding service and competitive prices they love about our unique brand.”
