Planners have refused to approve a temporary structure at a home near High Wycombe, saying it cannot be classed as a caravan.
Miss Kiran Purewal of Prime Oak asked Buckinghamshire Council for permission to site a ‘mobile structure’ at a property called ‘The Jays’ on Chinnor Road in Bledlow Ridge.
The applicant said the single storey one-bedroom unit would feature an ‘open-plan living and kitchen area’.
The plans read: “It is intended that the mobile structure would be used to provide ancillary accommodation to supplement the existing dwelling in the event of accommodation needing to be provided.
“When not in use for this purpose, it will provide much needed storage space for the existing dwelling.”
The application stressed the main property was a residential home, and the area of garden hosting the mobile structure had previously accommodated a garage.
The application sought confirmation from planning officers that the mobile structure could be defined as a ‘caravan’.
But the council said it did not have sufficient evidence to determine the structure could be classed as such.
In a decision notice, planners wrote: “The applicant has stated that the development would be ancillary to the occupation of the dwelling and provided no evidence for why a structure such as this is ‘reasonably required’.”
Bledlow cum Saunderton Parish Council also objected to the application, stating the structure did ‘not appear to be for temporary use’ and would actually be used as ‘ancillary accommodation’.
