High Wycombe’s new Tesco Express has finally opened.

The temproray store, which is based in the Eden Shopping Centre, officially unveiled itself to the pubic on Thursday, October 24 and will open for the next 12 months.

In conjunction with that, the town’s other Tesco outlet along Denmark Street has now closed as it undergoes a huge renovation.

Buckinghamshire Council confirmed earlier this month that the measure is to allow the upper floors of the old unit to be repurposed into offices.

This comes after the unitary authority announced in the summer that High Wycombe would be the new home of the county archives.

The archives are currently stored at the council’s Walton Street offices in Aylesbury, but the rooms housing the documents and artefacts – some of which are 800 years old – have reached capacity.

This means the supermarket will be transformed into a one-storey shop, from a two-story shop.

Shoppers in the town will now use the new unit in the Eden Centre, which was rammed with customers in its opening two days.

The new store will be based directly opposite Waterstone’s, whilst other chains will be in close proximity.

These include the likes of Sports Direct, Marks & Spencer and the gadget shop, MenKind.
