Residents in Princes Risborough feel ‘shocked’ and ‘unsafe’ after a stabbing on their doorstep.

The 35-year-old man from High Wycombe remains in custody after being arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent.

Police said the arrest was related to a stabbing in Laidler Gardens at around 10:45pm on Monday, October 21, which left one person hospitalised with a head injury.

They have since been discharged.

Although authorities have described it as an “isolated incident”, officers were on the ground in Laidler Gardens today, with teams searching undergrowth in the small housing cluster with sniffer dogs.

While they have reassured residents that the individuals involved were believed to be known to each other and pose no wider public risk, locals were understandably left shaken by the sudden police presence and idea of a crime being committed on their doorstep.

One young parent who didn’t want to be named said they had “heard shouting” on Tuesday night but decided to stay inside with their children rather than taking the risk of venturing out.

The local, who moved to the area from West London in January, said: “It makes you feel unsafe. One of my neighbours has lived in Princes Risborough their whole life and they haven’t seen something like this happen before.

“What’s quite scary is that there are lots of kids who live around here. They usually all play together on the playground – which now has lots of officers with dogs standing around it.

“You think you’re moving to a safe area, then this happens.”

Nadine, who also lives near the area being investigated, said she only moved in three months ago but had never seen such a police presence before.

“We didn’t know anything about it until we tried to leave for work this morning. I missed my train because the whole area was cordoned off and we couldn’t get out. I just thought, ‘What is happening?’

“I heard a bit of shouting late last night, but I thought it might have been people celebrating something. Whatever it was, it didn’t wake our five-year-old either, and we’re pretty close to where it seems to have happened.”

And Katie, who lives just around the corner from Laidler Gardens, said she was “shocked” to hear what had happened overnight after being alerted to it when “the WhatsApp group blew up” this morning.

“We had the police come and knock on our door – they’re obviously doing a very thorough investigation. It’s scary to have something happen so close by, but everyone’s curious to find out what happened.”

Details previously published by Thames Valley Police said the incident took place on October 22, but it has now been confirmed as happening on October 21.
