Preliminary results from a toxicology report have revealed One Direction singer and former Chalfont St Giles resident Liam Payne had numerous drugs in his system – including ‘pink cocaine’.
The 31-year-old died on October 16 after falling approximately 45 feet from a hotel balcony in Argentina.
The singer, who had been living in Buckinghamshire since 2022, was in South America watching his former 1D bandmate Niall Horan perform, just days before his untimely death.
It has now been confirmed through numerous media outlets that Payne had a ‘mix of several drugs’ in his system.
Some of the narcotics included cocaine, benzodiazepine, crack cocaine and “pink cocaine”, which is a combination of methamphetamine, ketamine and MDMA.
It is not known whether the singer accidentally or deliberately fell from his hotel balcony.
A source who was once close to the entertainer revealed to the Free Press that despite being described as ‘lovely and delightful’, the 31-year-old was ‘riddled with demons.
Payne, along with Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson, burst into stardom in their mid-to-late teens after One Direction reached the final of the 201o edition of the X Factor, finishing third.
The group would gain worldwide fame, selling out shows and tours across the globe, as well as selling tens of millions of records.
However, Payne’s confidant said that the singer “had too much too young”, and that there was “no-one around him to say no”.
He said: “At Christmas just gone, Liam looked absolutely broken as he just battled with drugs.
“He didn’t have anyone around him to say ‘no, don’t do this’ and no one stopped him buying drugs.
“People will criticise Simon Cowell but how long can Simon be responsible for them?
“They’re not on his label and they are adults.
“They know what’s right and what’s wrong, and sadly, he went down the wrong route.”
Payne’s sister, Nicola Payne, also paid tribute to her late brother: “When I saw the news pop up on my phone that you had left us I went cold, I wanted so much for this to be untrue.
“I have spent days hoping that it was a mistake and somebody has got it wrong.
“You were truly too good for this earth, you are an angel who just lived to make people smile and happy.
“You have always shown kindness to everyone you met and it shows with just how many people have confirmed what we always knew.”
Due to Payne’s house in Chalfont St Giles being secluded, only two floral tributes were left outside his Foxwood Mansion in the village, which he spent £3.5million on.
